COVID-19 Pandemic Impact Case Study in Marion County, Georgia

The U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Inspector General (DOL OIG) is conducting a survey of residents, businesses, government entities, and other stakeholders in selected areas of the country to assess experiences with pandemic UI programs. Marion County, Georgia, is one of the six areas in the U.S. selected for this survey. DOL OIG representatives will be in Marion County conducting door to door residential field visits to talk to individuals in November and December of this year.

COVID-19 PANDEMIC IMPACT - SELECT CASE STUDIES

The U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Inspector General (DOL OIG) is participating in a case study project led by the Pandemic Response Action Committee (PRAC) in coordination with nine other Inspectors General. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, Congress has authorized more than $5 trillion to be spent on the federal government's response. The response funding was allocated to federal agencies and then disbursed to state and local governments. Understanding the experiences of residents, businesses, government entities, and other stakeholders in these communities will enable the PRAC to evaluate these programs and determine if associated funding was utilized effectively.

As part of this study, DOL OIG will visit several geographic areas to survey unemployment insurance claimants to learn about their experiences. The six locations identified for this project include: Springfield, Massachusetts; Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; Marion County, Georgia; Sheridan County, Nebraska; White Earth Indian Nation, Minnesota; and Jicarilla Apache Nation, New Mexico.
