How to file a claim and what to expect after I have applied for an Individual Claim.
*Timelines are based upon error-free applications.

  • Complete an Application for Unemployment Benefits

Submit an Application for Unemployment Benefits. Once the application has been completed you will receive a confirmation number and an email.

    By Day 1
  • Wait for email advising your claim has been processed

After the GDOL reviews and processes your claim, you will receive another email advising your claim has been processed. If this is your first claim in the last 12 months, you will also be mailed a Benefits Determination Letter which shows the period and wages used to calculate your claim.

    By Day 6
  • Your last employer will be notified of the claim filed

Your last employer will be notified of the claim filed and provided 10 calendar days to respond. While a response is pending from your last employer, you can use your password to check your claim status on MyUI, request weekly payments, and use other online UI services. (If your password is ever suspended due excessive login attempts, you can reset it at Create/Forgot Password and/or PIN. After your employer's deadline, your separation reason will be reviewed and a determination to allow or deny benefits will be released and mailed to the address on your claim.

    By Day 18
  • Expect at least 21 days or more to access your weekly benefit payment

Please expect at least 21 days or more to access your weekly benefit payment if you are eligible to receive benefits. Payments will be made to the most recent payment method on record: direct deposit or state issued debit card. If your separation reason requires an eligibility review, this may delay payments until your determination is released. Eligibility reviews require information from the employee and the employer in order for the claims examiner to approve or deny benefits. If more information is needed from the claimant, a representative will reach out.
