GDOL Assists in UI Fraud Indictments

The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) enlisted the assistance of the U.S. Department of Labor Office of Inspector General in the Summer of 2021 after detecting suspicious activity related to employer unemployment tax accounts. This discovery led to an 18-month investigation involving multiple federal agencies that has recently resulted in the indictment of eight individuals involved in the unemployment insurance fraud scheme.

"We are happy to see this investigation is one step closer to seeing justice served," said Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler. "This agency prides itself on maintaining a program based on integrity, and when that integrity is comprised, it is our duty to call upon our law enforcement partners to prosecute all guilty parties."

The GDOL is unable to share any additional information about the investigation at this time due to the pending criminal proceedings but would be happy to share information once criminal proceedings are complete.
