Back Pay for Furlough Federal Employees
President Trump signed legislation ending the partial shutdown of the federal government and awarded back pay of wages for the furlough period. Federal employees were allowed to return to work effective Saturday, January 26, 2019.
Any federal employee who received unemployment insurance during the recent government shutdown is required by law to repay unemployment benefits received.
Federal regulations requires the Department to issue a notification of overpayment and a request to submit voluntary repayment to furloughed federal employees. Failure to submit repayment in a timely manner will generate an official Notice of Overpayment and the Department will request garnishment of wages by federal agency employers to recoup any overpayments.
