New Password Requirements for Unemployment Benefits

Please watch the YouTube video titled Creating a GDOL UI Claim Password.

To further enhance the security of our online systems, the GDOL is requiring all claimants to create and use a password to access the following online unemployment related services: Request weekly payments, File a claim, My UI, Update Benefit Payment Methods, Income Tax Withholding Option, Submit/View Weekly Work Search, Change of Address and Contact Information, 1099-G for Benefits Paid, and Appeal to UI Decision.

A personal identification number (PIN) may still be used to request weekly payments by telephone.

Your Next Steps

Individuals will complete the following steps to establish a password:

  1. Select Create/Forgot Password and/or PIN on the GDOL homepage or the Create/Forgot Password and/or PIN link on any online UI service application.
  2. Review and agree to the Account Maintenance Acknowledgement by checking the box in red at the bottom of the Unemployment Claim Account Management page.
  3. Enter the requested information.
  4. Select Continue.
  5. Individuals will enter Date of Birth and select Continue.

Individuals must verify your identity following the instructions before establishing a password. If you already have login information for ID.me, be sure to enter this information or create an account. You must provide accurate information to avoid delay or denial of unemployment benefits. You also must give ID.me authorization to share your information with GDOL to complete this process.

After your identity is verified, you will be directed to finish setting up your password by providing the requested information.

Password Requirements

  • Your password must be at least 8 characters, but no more than 20 characters long.
  • It must contain at least one UPPERCASE letter, one lowercase letter, one number, and one special character.

When you enter the requested information, the Confirmation page will display. Now, you are ready to begin using your password to access online unemployment claim related services. You may also use this application to change or reset your password and/or PIN or update your personal information.

NOTE: If you recently submitted an unemployment claim using your PIN, you must create a password to request weekly payments or access online unemployment claim services.
